Preparing for Policy Analysis for Social Justice

Hi folks

I’m really looking forward to working with you guys next semester!

PASJ is running slightly differently from the first two courses you guys have taken. Firstly, please note that PASJ is running on Thursdays from 19.00GMT. Second, you will have a semester long group project that is worth 30% of your final assessment. Look, I know group projects can be terrible but, as I’ll explain further at our first session in January, part of the struggle that you’ll inevitably face in doing this group project with colleagues is what you will (or perhaps have already) encounter in coalition politics and/or advocacy work. Trying to decide on an issue, strategy and tactics, is really hard work and it will be great experience for you guys to model some democratic practices in this group work.

In order to prepare for this assessment (I know, I know, you guys are furiously writing your CASJ community case files) it would be good to have a wee think over the winter break of the kinds of issues/problems you’d like to tackle through this group work exercise. During our first week, we’ll sort you into groups based on interest areas and then we’ll let you take it from there.

More details to follow, but I thought I’d flag this now.

p.s. Please don’t forget to tell me if you’d like to sign up for Organisational Management for Social Justice!

Good day. I’m thinking broadly refugee crisis, climate justice or ‘terrorism’. But as usual, I am flexible.

Those are great topics and very timely–hopefully there’ll be interest in them amongst the group!
