Moodle rejects my post or comment!
“There is an ongoing issue with our third party ForumNG plugin where a post or comment is not accepted by Moodle and a database error is displayed. This occurs if a piece of text is pasted into a post or comment and it contains a Greek character or an accented character.
We have been given an update by the plugin developers but this update is causing other issues in our environment that we are working to resolve. Unfortunately this resolution is not likely to occur before the University’s Christmas and New Year break.
In the meantime the only thing that students can try is to delete any pasted accented characters and replace them by clicking on the Insert Special Character button, found in the second row of the editor, and selecting the correct one from the grid.”

Viewing blocked mixed content
By default, mixed content is blocked in Internet Explorer (version 10+), Mozilla Firefox(version 23+) and Google Chrome (version 21+). When mixed content is blocked, you may see a blank page or a message saying that “Only secure content is displayed”. To enable a browser to view blocked mixed content, follow the relevant instructions below.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click Show all content.
The page will refresh and display any mixed content.
At the top of the page, to the left of the address bar, click the shield icon ( ).
In the pop-up window that appears, click the down arrow next to “Keep Blocking”, and select Disable Protection on This Page.
The page will refresh and display any mixed content. The shield icon will be replaced with a warning symbol to indicate that the page
is displaying both secure and non-secure items.
Click the shield icon on the right side of the address bar ( ).
In the icon dialog box, click Load anyway.
I'm not getting any comments!
I can't add a user without an email address!
You can get this from the Blogs parent site – “Members List” (on right hand menu).
Then go to Your blog/Dashboard/Users/Add New. You should be looking for “Add existing User” . Then in “E-mail or Username” place the UUN or email address for the user. You might want to tick the box “Skip confirmation email” if you want to save the user a wee job.
I keep getting anonymous comments on my blog
To make your blog more secure, go to Dashboard/Settings/Discussion and tick “Users must be registered and logged in to comment ”. Up to you whether you want to hold comments on your posts for moderation.
How do I add users to my blog?
No one will see your profundities if you have no users 🙂 . I have added a plugin to allow you to add multiple users from the network to your blog. Go to your blog, then Dashboard / AMU where you can add users who are on the blogs network. Set the role to ‘contributor’ for each user (and remember to tick the box!)
I can’t see how to access readings!
Be alert for links which don’t show up very well in this implementation of Moodle. I’ve already had one enquiry about missing reading materials, which were in fact behind a link that wasn’t too visible. Try passing your mouse over the text on the page and the links will show up then.
Collaborate session not working!
Please read Collaborate preparation in preparation for a Collaborate Session. You will have to install Collaborate launcher and you may have to update your Java installation (which you will be prompted to do – just a matter of clicking Yes to everything). You will be prompted to download a meeting file which you should then click to launch the session. The launcher can take some time to load it so be patient.
Email me if it’s not working out and I’ll try and help.
I can’t see the recording of last night’s lecture
Recordings will normally be available the following morning. They will be accessed by clicking on the Collaborate link for the lecture. Sometimes the recording will have to be edited, in which case it will be a Youtube video embedded on the same page. This will take a bit longer so please be patient.
I can’t see the dashboard on my blog
You are probably not logged in. The best way to avoid this is to always go to the Hub first, then “About the programme”, then “Student blogs” so you will be logged in automatically using EASE.
